A lady was looking to have 4 cushions recovered for her outdoor chair. There were 2 back cushions and 2 seat cushions. The client provided the original foam and new material. The seamstress supplied the thread and zippers.
First the seamstress measured the cushions then removed the original covers from the foam. She then traced the foam onto the material and added seam allowance. Once all of the cushions were marked onto the material using a tailor’s chalk, she had cut out all of the pieces.
Next was overlock stitching the edges where the zippers will be sewn on to prevent from fraying. The seamstress worked on the seat cushions first as they were boxed shape and had more pieces. Once the zippers were installed, the rest of the pieces were pinned in place and ready to be stitched around twice for reinforcement.
After the 2 seat cushions were completed, the seams were then serged. Next were the back cushions which were made the same way as throw pillows. The zippers were sewn on first and the two pieces of material were stitched right sides together all around, serged then turned right side out. The seamstress inserted the original foams into the new covers.
The client was contacted once all of the cushions were complete. She was very pleased with the way they turned out and happy with the turn around time.
