A woman inquired about having 6 cushions recovered for her 3 seater sofa. There was one large rectangle cushion that was 6 ft long by 2 ft wide and 5 inches thick. The others were 3 pillows 23.5 by 20.5 and 2 bolster pillows 28 inches long by 7.25 in diameter. The client provided the material and requested to have them with piping.

The first step was creating the patterns by laying out the cushions on the folded material and tracing them leaving seam allowance. After the pieces for the 6 cushions were cut, the next step was to make the piping. The seamstress cut 2 inch strips on the bias of the material. Next was to sew the pieces together, press the seams flat, trim excess and insert the provided cording inside. A zipper foot was used to stitch as closely as possible. Once the piping was created, the pieces that would have the zippers sewn were serged. After installing the zippers, the piping was then sewn on to one piece and then the other pieces would be sewn on top completing the cushions.

The seamstress inserted the cushions into the new covers. The client was then contacted to pick them up. The woman was very satisfied with her new covers and was looking forward to seeing them with her newly upholstered sofa.
